dtSearch
and Cybergroup’s dbConnector were the
logical choice. The client needed the ability
to search meta-data and content in one search,
producing an integrated, comprehensive results
presentation.

Cybergroup, Inc. is a professional
services firm with expertise in Internet and Intranet
business strategy, Internet marketing communications,
and Internet and Intranet technology solutions.
Cybergroup provides a comprehensive range of Internet,
Intranet, and Web site solutions and services,
with a primary focus on Web to database integration.

One of the world’s largest law firms wanted
to enhance their existing client document collection
to include an advanced search tool that joined
database and document information into the same
search results. "This 'client facing'
application provides access to a database and
associated documents including briefs, articles,
presentations, and legal opinions," explained
Greg Bean, President of Cybergroup. "Clients
were interested in locating information that
required accessing both the database meta-data
and document text. For example, they might
need to locate information by a certain author,
only in legal briefs, and with the words 'false
memory' in the text."

For
each search result, information such as author,
sponsor, top-level taxonomy, and a synopsis
is displayed in an easy-to-use presentation
format.

Since the firm’s existing Web programming
language was Adobe / Macromedia’s ColdFusion,
Cybergroup proposed a Coldfusion-based search
tool incorporating dtSearch and Cybergroup’s
dbConnector product. dbConnector serves
as a developer bridge between dtSearch, ODBC-compliant
databases such as SQL Server, and unstructured
document data (e.g. PDFs or Word documents). "dtSearch
and Cybergroup’s dbConnector were the logical
choice. The client needed the ability to search
meta-data and content in one search, producing
an integrated, comprehensive results presentation," said
Ian Rashkin, Project Manager for Cybergroup.
The search tool Cybergroup developed consists
of a search application and a custom indexer. "The
custom indexer runs once per night, building
the various search indexes for each collection,
and, very importantly, pulls associated meta-data
(author(s), sponsor(s) date, etc.) from the SQL
Server database," added Mr. Bean. "For
each search result, information such as author,
sponsor, top-level taxonomy, and a synopsis is
displayed in an easy-to-use presentation format.
Sorting options in the results display include
results by Title, Author, Date, and Relevance."
