“We were looking for a product for publishing the PDFs to the Web and making them instantly searchable. dtSearch fit the bill perfectly.”

“dtSearch was easy to work with.  Following our installation, searching was instantaneous.  The end result is a much more accessible archive for the library and its constituents.”
Graphic SciencesPaper newspapers and newspapers on microfilm have always been a popular reference resource for public library users. Graphic Sciences specializes in converting newspapers and newspaper on microfilm to digital images. “Research can be more complete and much faster,” explains Graphic Sciences. “Microfilm equipment maintenance and supply expense can be eliminated. Valuable staff time assisting users with operating the microfilm equipment can be saved.” And most importantly, “microfilm converted to digital images can be made available via library website.”

The specific process that Graphic Sciences uses for the libraries is as follows. First, Graphic Sciences takes the paper and microfilm for each library, and scans it to searchable PDFs. (Graphic Science specializes in very high precision, low error newspaper scanning.) Second, Graphic Sciences sets up a custom web site for each library to run in-house, including easy access to the new digital PDFs.

To assist in publishing the documents to the custom web site, and to make them instantly searchable, Graphic Sciences uses the dtSearch Web with Spider / Text Retrieval Engine. “We were looking for a product for publishing the PDFs to the Web and making them instantly searchable. dtSearch fit the bill perfectly,” said Terry Buchanan, Sales Manager, Graphic Sciences. “dtSearch was easy to work with. Following our installation, searching was instantaneous. The end result is a much more accessible archive for the library and its constituents.”
