Jacksonville has
something to offer everyone: miles of uncrowded
beaches; ecological and nature based excursions;
world-class golf courses; top-of-the-line tennis
facilities and other recreation; historical sites
and architecture; sporting, gaming and cultural
activities; unique shopping and dining; nightlife
and entertainment; festivals and events; a riverfront
festival marketplace and river cruises; and a
very, very long and rich history.

According to the Jacksonville & the Beaches
Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB): “Northeast
Florida was first inhabited by Timucuan Indians
who lived along creeks and waterways. The Spanish
came into the area in 1513, led by Juan Ponce
de Leon. He named the area La Florida and, in
doing so, established the region's rich tradition
of history and heritage. In 1564, the French built
Fort Caroline in what is now Jacksonville, establishing
the first Protestant colony in America. They lost
their foothold in Florida to the Spanish, who
conquered the French and built a settlement in
nearby St. Augustine in 1565, 55 years before
the Mayflower landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts.”

“The
addition of the search function using dtSearch
helps make that possible.”

Today, the CVB
is the sales and marketing agency responsible
for attracting visitors to the Jacksonville metropolitan
area. Its mission is to market the area as a destination
for visitors, resulting in increased sales of
room nights, tourism tax revenues and employment
opportunities. The CVB is dedicated to selling
greater Jacksonville as a convention and leisure
travel destination on regional, national and international
levels.
For searching content on the CVB
site, the CVB recently added the dtSearch Text
Retrieval Engine to its site. “People want
to find things right away,” says Kory Martin,
Manager of Communications Technology and leader
of this project for the CVB. “My goal was
to have people find the information they need
in three clicks or less. The addition of the search
function using dtSearch helps make that possible.”
