dtSearch Case Study — Q-Docs

Q-Docs Leverages dtSearch for User-Friendly Web-Based Document Management

“Q-Docs selected dtSearch because of it's unique ability not only to index and search XML metadata and text at high level for file types like Microsoft Office and Acrobat PDF, but also to highlight found text in these formats as well.”

Specializing in functional Web design, Digital Constructs Inc. enhances corporate assets by integrating custom interface design keyed to specific client needs. Its new Q-Docs document management system allows for easy online document management of Adobe PDF and other popular file types. Users can quickly add new documents with custom document fields, and make these part of the Q-Docs-accessible database.

"When developing Q-Docs, the key was to build an easy to use system that would scale, run locally or off the Net, and be database driven," said Robert Moran, CEO of Digital Constructs. "We also wanted to be able to highlight text for both source files like Microsoft Office and Acrobat PDF, and to have the capability of conducting combined metadata/full-text searches without a problem."

“dtSearch does its job of managing files both on and off the Web in ways that no other system can match. It's an extraordinary environment that we will never outgrow. dtSearch is a real class act.”

"Used in conjunction with dtSearch, Q-Docs permits users to upload files and conduct sophisticated searches using any browser equipped system that has links to the Q-Docs system," explained Mr. Moran. "Because the environment is templated, the system can be easily tailored to specific industries like legal and insurance without a problem. Because dtSearch is extremely flexible in building indexes, Q-Docs can scale to meet individual user needs without undue effort."

For example, for one project, Digital Constructs developed a version of the system that enables a large construction company to manage their documents with little or no training. The environment handles 100+ document types and 20+ custom XML metadata tags that are driven by a database.
