Golden
Visions Consulting, LLC, developed for one of
its clients a customizable content management
system. The system works as a Web-based application,
and as an offline system on CD. The system stores
data both as separate documents, and as records
in an SQL database. It supports multiple popular
file types, including word processor, database,
PDF, XML and HTML. And users can enter full-text
and fielded data queries.
For its content management system, Golden Visions
chose the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine. "With
the dtSearch Engine, a single search could go
against the separate documents and the SQL database,
and deliver both through the Web and offline,"
said Golden Blount, Director, Technical Services,
Golden Visions. "And we were able to do special
customization around the dtSearch Engine to suit
the customer's needs, such as multi-layered category
filters."

Golden
Visions coded the system to work equally well in
a Web environment and on CD. "We originally
wrote the application to dynamically generate Web
pages from the database. We then developed a customized
browser application, to work with the same code
base delivered offline using MS Internet Explorer."
