eMedicine.com Selects dtSearch To Help Power Its World Medical Library

“A search engine is the core of a content website and we have the largest concentration of medical textbook information available on the Internet.”
Text Retrieval Engine Will Help Medical Professionals And Consumers Pinpoint Information Rapidly

eMedicine.com, the medical education web network and developer of the first online, peer-reviewed medical reference library, has chosen the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine to power its new search engine.

Jeffrey Berezin, eMedicine CTO, said "A search engine is the core of a content website and we have the largest concentration of medical textbook information available on the Internet. Users coming into our site want rapid access to information. dtSearch will give our users greater selectivity of information. It will also allow us to tailor the search engine to the particular user visiting our site, regardless of whether they are a consumer or medical professional."

"eMedicine is a great resource for both consumers and professionals," said David V. Thede, president, dtSearch Corp. "The innovative web searching interface they have created is very impressive. For example, they use a unique and effective pop-up synopsis window to provide informative but uncluttered research results. We are very impressed with their searching implementation."

“Users coming into our site want rapid access to information. dtSearch will give our users greater selectivity of information.”

The dtSearch Engine can search through gigabytes of text in a second because it builds an index that stores the location of words in files. Once an index is built, search speed is generally less than a second, even through it searches many thousands of files.

eMedicine gives physicians and consumers Internet access to clinical decision support tools and information that, in the past, would have to be looked up in a textbook. New editions of reference books often require two to five years to move from concept to bookstore, so the information can be quickly out of date. eMedicine addresses this critical information delay by providing content that can be updated daily. The content also includes radiographic images, audio and video clips as well as links to other sites. The company is privately held and headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida.

dtSearch Corp. (www.dtsearch.com) offers a decade of experience in text search and retrieval. The dtSearch product line encompasses both end-user and developer products. Customers include Fortune 500 companies; major software vendors,; government agencies; and large legal, medical, accounting and recruiting firms.
