Modern
Micro Imaging's mission is to help businesses
connect their “old
world” microfilm and paper documents with
their modern digital counterparts. Recently, Modern
Micro Imaging began incorporating the dtSearch
Text Retrieval Engine into solutions where customers
needed text search and retrieval for the massive
databases that Modern Micro Imaging would create.

Modern Micro Imaging developed an information
management system called VFX, or Virtual File
Exchange, for a major power company. The data
Modern Micro Imaging entered into the system was
a mixture of text files and associated images.
The purpose of the system was to enable power
plant operators to quickly find documents relating
to power plant construction, maintenance and financial
records.

“The
fuzzy searching was fantastic. When there
was an OCR mistake, we were still able to
find what we were looking for in the text.”

To
its VFX system, Modern Micro Imaging decided to
add the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine for full-text
searching. “It's
a great product. The dtSearch Engine's controls
were easy to understand and use, both in-house
and for our customers,” said Doug Jones,
Director, Computer Imaging Services, Modern Micro
Imaging. “The
fuzzy searching was fantastic. When there was
an OCR mistake, we were still able to find what
we were looking for in the text.”
