Premirus’ flagship product is Premirus Imaging, a multi-server Web-based document management component with OCR and full text indexing. Premirus Imaging provides for multi-scanner support. Documents can be entered into the system from multiple different scanner points, with OCR performance in the background. Premirus Imaging then sweeps the documents from local servers into a central repository each night. In addition to OCR’ed text, Premirus Imaging also accepts into this repository all major word processing formats and imaging formats, as well as other popular "Office" files like Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.

For indexing and searching the central repository, Premirus chose the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine. "Each day, the dSearch Engine does an incremental daily build to add documents to the index." Premirus liked the broad range of search options provided by the dtSearch Engine. "We use fuzzy searching, phonic searching, stemming, thesaurus, fields, the whole dtSearch works."

For fielded data, Premirus used the dtSearch Engine’s "xfilter." "We use a number of built-in document fields, as well as including through dtSearch's xfilter several on-the-fly fields that we picked up while indexing. Even with incremental dtSearch xfilter-enabled builds, search time was generally less than a second."

Premirus also liked the flexible nature of the dtSearch Engine product as it fit into their own components. "Our components are all written in C# and C++.NET. dtSearch worked wonderfully with managed and unmanaged C# and C++ code within the .NET framework. The final results coming out of dtSearch are converted to XML by the middle-tier server, and can be presented as either XML or HTML following a search, with the retrieved data then converted to ADO.NET data sets."
